With the holiday season approaching, retailers are getting in full swing to tempt your wallet open. But they’re not the only ones! Although they’re active all year long, the holidays can be a lucrative time for scammers. When you may be inclined to spend more freely, and you’re full of seasonal good-will and holiday cheer, your guard may be down a fraction, so be careful. Just as the retailers ramp up for the festive season, so do scammers!

We all like to win prizes, and especially ones which entail winning large amounts of money, but beware! Cue the Prize Money Scam. If you know you’re dealing with a legitimate company you’ve nothing to fear. However, too-easily winning large amounts from entities you’ve barely heard of, and maybe weren’t expecting, is usually too good to be true. Even if they’ve already paid you!

Banking scams have been around for a long time, but with increasing regularity we still hear of new scams daily. Despite there being an increased awareness of banking scams among some people, there are still thousands of people who fall victim to scams they could have avoided.

Employment scams are rife, and they’re particularly nasty since they often take advantage of those who can afford it least. As with most scams, if you pay a little attention, and are aware that such scams exist, then you can hopefully avoid falling victim to any of them.
